Niagara Thruway lane closures will affect afternoon commute

The afternoon rush hour will face a crunch all week in a section of the Niagara Thruway.

Traffic on the I-190 will be limited to one lane in each direction starting at 5 p.m. through 6 a.m. the next morning between the Niagara Street and Peace Bridge exits, according to the state Department of Transportation. That daily closure will continue each day through Friday.

The work will involve the erection of steel for the Porter Avenue bridge over the I-190, the agency said.

In addition, the ramp from Busti Avenue/Niagara Street Extension to the I-190 south will be closed each day through Friday from about 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Motorists will have to also deal with another closure on Monday night through Tuesday morning – the on-ramp from the Peace Bridge Plaza to the I-190 south will be closed from about 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. Tuesday.
