Holiday weekend patrols lead to nearly 200 stops

Increased Erie County Sheriff’s highway patrols over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend led to five driving while intoxicated arrests and 175 other drivers served with traffic tickets, Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reported Monday.

In addition to the DWI stops, other motorists were ticketed for speeding, distracted driving, having passengers not wearing seat belts and one crash remains under investigation, according to Scott Zylka, the sheriff office’s spokesman.
