WHEATFIELD – A dog was killed late last week in what may have been a hunting-related shooting in the 6700 block of Townline Road.
The dog’s owner, Lynn and Steve Attwood, told Niagara County sheriff’s deputies they heard a single gunshot at 8:20 a.m. on Friday, but didn’t think anything of it because it was hunting season.
Lynn Attwood told deputies they have five dogs contained by an invisible fence. She said one of her dogs, Shylo, a brown Husky did not come when she called. A deputy and a DEC officer searched the property, which extends 800 feet into some heavy, low lying brush and located the dog, which had been killed by a single wound to the chest made by a slug. The dog was brought back to the residents.
No hunters were observed in the area, according to deputies.
