A public hearing has been set regarding the ambulance service in the Village of Springville and Town of Concord.

The hearing is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Springville-Griffith Institute High School’s auditorium at 290 N. Buffalo St.

Village Board and Town Board members have declared a “public need” for Mercy Emergency Medical Services to replace Rural/Metro Corp. as the service provider.

Town and village officials want to grant primary operating authority to Mercy EMS.

Any town or village resident may speak during the hearing.

This week:

• The Lake Shore Central School Board meets in a work session at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Highland Elementary School, 6745 Erie Road, Derby.

• The Springville-Griffith Institute School Board meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the high school’s library.

• A Concord Planning Board meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Town Hall’s courtroom at 86 Franklin St.

• A community forum about the proposed capital project in the Springville-Griffith Institute Central School District has been scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Middle School’s library at 267 Newman St. Child care will be offered.

• The Evans Town Board meets at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Town Hall at 8787 Erie Road.

• The Boston Town Board meets at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Boston Town Hall, 8500 Boston State Road.

• The spirit of the holiday season will be in the air this weekend as Christmas in Gowanda will include several activities Dec. 4 and 5.

The celebration will kickoff with a parade at 4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4. After the parade, children can visit with Santa, as well as Princess Elsa from the movie “Frozen” until 9 p.m. at the Hollywood Theater.

There will be several activities, including showing movies, horse and wagon rides, ornament making and visiting with Santa’s reindeer.

Festivities will continue from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5. The second day activities will include visits with Santa, a Santa Snowflake Walk at 2:45 p.m., and at the conclusion, a holiday concert will be held at 4:30 p.m. at Hollywood Theater.

• The Newell-Faulkner American Legion Post 880 will host Breakfast with Santa from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Dec. 6 at 2912 Legion Drive in Eden. For more details, call the post at 992-3304.

• Sounds of the holiday season will fill the air as the Lake Shore Middle School, 8855 Erie Road, will host the annual 8th grade holiday concert.

The concert begins at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 1.

Christmas music will continue to be heard throughout the district as the JT Waugh holiday concert is at 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 7 at the school, 100 High St., Angola.
