Let’s work to prevent a revival of nativism
Can Muslims be trusted? That is the question being posed as Syrian refugees seek entry into Europe and North America. It is important to remember that during the 19th century, when the Irish, Germans, Italians and Poles fled famine, oppression and poverty, the question then was: Can Catholics be trusted? I would hope that all descendants of immigrants would be at the forefront of preventing a revival of nativism in our country today.
