Don’t judge all people by the actions of a few
Three cheers and hats off for Clarence Page! His op-ed column, “Pols run against Syrian refugees” in The News on Nov. 24 says what really had to be said about the refugee issue.
When referring to the internment camps imposed by our government during World War II, Page stated that they “should not be a model for how we treat Syrian refugees.” He goes on to say that they “illustrate something that governments should never do.”
I submit the suggestion that we change the wording to be: No one should “presume an entire group of people to be a threat to national security simply because they belong to the wrong ethnic group.”
There’s a lesson to be learned there about many issues, but you would think we’d have learned this lesson based on the history of our nation alone.
