DUNKIRK – Four adults and three children were being assisted by the American Red Cross after a fire at a Ruggles Street home Thursday afternoon, Dunkirk Fire Department officials said.
The fire initially was reported shortly after 1 p.m. as a natural gas leak.
Fire crews saw smoke coming from the second story of a two-family house and soon found fire in a second-floor wall that was spreading to the attic. Firefighters gained access to the fire and extinguished it, officials said.
The blaze caused “moderate fire, smoke and water damage to the second floor,” a statement read.
There were no injuries.
Fire investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire.
