Community should help Gigi’s in its hour of need
I am writing this letter in support of the rebuilding of Gigi’s restaurant located in the heart of the East Side. For the last six years, I along with 14 other family members and friends have met at Gigi’s every Saturday at exactly 10 a.m. To date we have missed only one Saturday, and that was due to a funeral.
We have a reserved table in the back part of Gigi’s and the fellowship is awesome to witness. We are often joined at the table by folks coming in from other states. The owner, Blondine Harvin, has been a friend of our family for over 50 years. In fact, we were patrons at the original restaurant when it was located at 1438 Jefferson Ave.
Now the time has come for us to offer assistance to Harvin, the godmother of the famous soul food restaurant who is also a pillar in the community.
We have made a pledge to join with others in providing monetary support to help rebuild this institution and to help all the wonderful employees who have worked at Gigi’s for years.
I implore others to take the torch. It is a cause that will benefit all who have had the opportunity to meet Harvin and to have eaten at Gigi’s.
