Tonawanda group wants locals to go to NYC Tonawanda Coke court date

A Tonawanda-based citizens group is asking the public to show their support for the $24 million fine levied against Tonawanda Coke as part of its criminal conviction .

Citizen Science Community Resources wants local residents to travel to New York City for the legal arguments in Tonawanda Coke’s appeal before the U.S. Second Circuit Court of Appeals.

The group thinks a show of support would help insure that two environmental studies earmarked for money from the fines will continue to move forward.

“It is imperative these studies remain funded and a large contingent of folks from Western New York attend the proceedings to show their support for our community and the studies," said Jackie James-Creedon, director of the group.

The legal arguments are scheduled for 10 a.m. Dec. 9 in Foley Square, 40 Centre Street, Manhattan.
