Buffalo is establishing a park-and-ride shuttle to encourage holiday shopping along the Elmwood strip.
Starting the Saturday after Thanksgiving, and continuing every Saturday through Dec. 19, a free Elmwood shuttle service will be available from noon until midnight.
The shuttle will run along Elmwood from Forest Avenue to Allen Street, making seven stops along the way. Free parking will available at the Gallagher Parking Ramp, 499 Elmwood Ave. The shuttle is sponsored by Delaware District Councilman Joel P. Feroleto, who asked that the city waive the parking fees. Feroleto and Mayor Byron W. Brown said they are hopeful the initiative will encourage holiday shopping and dining in the Elmwood district. Buffalo is also suspending parking meter enforcement the Friday after Thanksgiving, the 27th, as well as on Dec. 23, 24, and 31. Metered spaces will be free on those days.
