Jamestown Community College campus closed after threat about active shooter

Jamestown police are looking for a man in a yellow poncho who made a threatening phone call Friday afternoon to the Jamestown Community College campus.

The man called the college at about 1:50 p.m. from the James Prendergast Library in downtown Jamestown, police said. The man then walked out of the library toward the center of the city.

The caller told an operator that “an active shooter was on his way to the campus,” said Kirk Young, spokesman for the college.

The college alerted Jamestown police and after consultation, the college decided to immediately close the campus.

By 4 p.m., the campus had been evacuated and residence halls, where about 340 students live, were on lockdown.

All activities on campus were canceled for the remainder of the day.

Police described the caller as a white male, wearing a yellow rain poncho, a blue knit hat and dark jeans.

Anyone who can assist police is asked to call 483-7537.
