Gasport man charged with trying to strangle his girlfriend

GASPORT – A Gasport man is being held in the Niagara County Jail on $50,000 bail on charges of attempting to strangle his girlfriend, according to State Police.

Michael S. Moore, 42, was charged Tuesday with second-degree felony strangulation and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon after police found an unregistered handgun. Both charges are felonies. He also was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief, criminal obstruction of breathing and third-degree assault.

Troopers investigating a domestic dispute on Hartland Road, reported that Moore had allegedly hit and choked his girlfriend and also damaged her belongings during a fight.

Moore was arraigned in Royalton Town Court and remanded to Niagara County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 12.
