Francis D. Zuhlke of Youngstown, retired owner of Generation Construction Co. in Youngstown, died Wednesday. He was 69.
A native of Lackawanna, Mr. Zuhlke joined the Navy in 1965 and was discharged in 1969 with the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, the Air Medal, a Purple Heart, the Navy Commendation Medal with Bronze Star and the Combat “V” Medal.
Mr. Zuhlke owned and operated Generation Construction Co. of Youngtown for more than 20 years until he retired in 2004. He lived in Youngstown for more than 25 years.
A communicant of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church of Youngstown, he was a life member of the Military Order of Purple Heart, U.S. Navy Seawolves Attack Helicopter Squadron, the Vietnam Veterans of America, and American Legion Post 1451 in Wheatfield. He was a coach with the Niagara Pioneer Soccer League for 20 years.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, the former Sheila Billings; three daughters, Jean Mang, Sharon Borkowski and Denise Conde; seven grandchildren, and a sister, Nancy Smith.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Bernards’s Catholic Church, Hinman and Second streets in Youngstown.
