FREDONIA – The State University of New York at Fredonia Veterans Affairs office announced plans for several events during Veterans’ Week, the week prior to the national observance of Veterans Day on Nov. 11.
On Nov. 4, author Brian Turner, who served for seven years in the U.S. Army, is scheduled to give a talk. There will also be a screening of Dr. Rob Deemer’s musical composition set to Turner’s poem, “Eulogy.” The event is at 6 p.m. in Fenton Hall Room 105. “Eulogy” is based on Turner’s narrative of a soldier who takes his own life on the battlefield in Iraq. Deemer’s composition was performed at Carnegie Hall in March. For more information on Brian Turner, visit http://www.brianturner.org.
On Thursday, Nov. 5, Matt Gallagher will conduct a veterans writing workshop. Gallagher is an author as well as a former U.S. Army captain and Iraq war veteran. The workshop will be held at 6:30 p.m. in Science Center Room 105.
Veterans Week will conclude with Fredonia’s eighth annual Remembrance Ceremony on Friday, Nov. 6, at 3:30 p.m. in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room. The Remembrance Ceremony provides a forum through which campus and community members gather to show their gratitude towards veterans.
