Elizabeth R. Mehnert, 99, active as volunteer

April 2, 1916 – Oct. 27, 2015

Elizabeth R. Mehnert, of Williamsville, active as a volunteer, died Tuesday in Seneca Health Care Center, West Seneca. She was 99.

Born in Williamsville, the former Elizabeth Berger was a graduate of Williamsville High School and the E.J. Meyer Memorial Hospital School of Nursing.

Mrs. Mehnert was active with the Western New York YWCA and served on its board of directors.

After her husband’s retirement in 1972, she moved to Oceanside, Calif., where she was a volunteer with the Tri-City Hospital Auxiliary with more than 50,000 hours of service. She returned to Williamsville in 2010 to live with family.

Her husband of 57 years, Dr. Robert H., assistant plant physician and surgeon in the clinic at the former Bethlehem Steel Corp. plant in Lackawanna, died in 1994.

Survivors include three sons, Robert B., Karl J. and James L.; a daughter, Barbara Llamas; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be arranged.
