BNRinkside: Quinnipiac impresses, Minnesota-Duluth depresses in Top 20 ballot

North Dakota continues to make its case at the top team in the country. With a sweep of Vermont, North Dakota improved to 4-0-2 and garnered 23 first place votes in this week's USCHO.com poll.

Yet again, I did not vote North Dakota No. 1. They are No. 2 on my ballot. Boston College keeps the top spot on my ballot after sweeping Colorado College and winning its last three games via shutout.

The biggest jump on my ballot when to Quinnipiac as I moved the Bobcats from No. 16 to No. 8 with their sweep of St. Cloud State. Quinnipiac is 6-0 and starting to impress.

The biggest disappointment this week was Minnesota-Duluth coming out of South Bend with just a pair of ties against Notre Dame. I liked the Bulldogs a lot in the preseason. Maybe more than I should. But it's October and we play through March and I still think they can be a contender when we get to that point.

Yes, I have Minnesota on my ballot after they finally got wins and swept Northeastern. Perhaps I have them ranked too high. I'm willing to concede that. Life will become easier after this weekend when the Ivy League schools begin play and everyone will have an actual record.

My ballot this week:

1. Boston College
2. North Dakota
3. Nebraska-Omaha
4. Providence
5. Minnesota-Duluth
6. Denver
7. Boston University
8. Quinnipiac
9. Harvard
10. UMass-Lowell
11. St. Cloud State
12. Bowling Green
13. Yale
14. Michigan
15. Miami
16. Minnesota
17. St. Lawrence
18. Minnesota State
19. Merrimiack
20. Michigan Tech
