A 25-year-old Olympic Avenue man was arrested on 10 felony and misdemeanor charges for allegedly driving a stolen car while drunk and having a stolen handgun when he was stopped about 1:20 a.m. Friday at Olympic and Collingwood avenues.
Christopher J. Beenau was arrested for driving while intoxicated with a blood-alcohol level of 0.16 percent, twice the state’s legal limit. He had to be subdued by several police officers when he tried to flee after throwing a 22-caliber revolver out of his coat pocket, according to an arrest report.
The revolver was confirmed to have been stolen in Albuquerque, N.M. 24 years ago. The car was recently reported stolen in Buffalo and Beenau was found to lack a driver’s license.
In addition to driving while intoxicated he was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, fourth- and fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, third-degree unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration, aggravated unlicensed driving, driving without a license and consuming alcohol in a vehicle. Beenau remained in custody at the Erie County Holding Center Friday night.
