71-year-old pedestrian struck by car in Newfane

A 71-year-old man was seriously injured when he was struck by a car while crossing East Avenue, at Main Street, in Newfane shortly after 7 a.m. Friday, the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office said.

The man, whose name has not been released, was struck as the driver was attempting a right turn, with a green light, onto East Ave.

The pedestrian, who suffered multiple injuries, was attended to at the scene by Miller Hose Volunteer Fire Company. He was then transported to Eastern Niagara Hospital where a landing zone was set up for a Mercy Flight helicopter. The patient was then transported to Erie County Medical Center.

The driver, a 79-year-old woman, was treated and released at the scene by Olcott Volunteer Fire Company after reporting chest pains.

The sheriff’s Crime Scene Identification Unit was dispatched for photographs of the accident scene.

The investigation was continuing, officials said.
