ARKWRIGHT – A public hearing will be held Nov. 4 on a proposed wind farm in northern Chautauqua County, the state Department of Environmental Conservation announced Wednesday.
The Arkwright Summit Wind Farm, if approved, would include 36 wind turbines and generate up to 78.6 megawatts of electricity, according to a DEC report.
The largest of the turbines being considered – the Vestas V-110 – are expected to be nearly 500 feet in height, project specifications show.
Along with the turbine construction, more than 12 miles of access roads, underground electrical cables and other equipment would be required as part of the project.
The Town of Arkwright recently accepted an environmental impact statement, a requirement before construction can start.
The town will hold a public hearing on environmental issues at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 4, at the town’s highway garage at 9531 Center Road. Written comments will also be accepted through Nov. 14.
The public may review the documents at Arkwright Town Hall or online at http://www.edprnorthamerica.com/farms/regulatory-permitting-information.
