Tonawanda police say burglary suspect entered restaurant’s drive-thru window

The drive-thru window at one place and a side door at another were the points of entry for a man accused of burglarizing two City of Tonawanda fast-food restaurants, police reported Wednesday.

Leroy L. Twitty, 31, of Miller Street, North Tonawanda, was charged with two counts each of burglary and criminal mischief, which are felonies, and petit larceny, a misdemeanor.

Police said Twitty is accused of smashing out a side door at the Subway restaurant, 45 Niagara St., on May 15 and stealing money from the office.

On Sept. 18, Twitty allegedly broke into McDonald’s, 10 Main St., by climbing through the drive-thru window, police said.

Police Capt. Fredric Foels credited the patrol officers who responded to each scene with preserving and collecting evidence that enabled detectives to connect Twitty with the burglaries.

Following arraignment in Tonawanda City Court, Twitty was sent to the Erie County Holding Center in lieu of $10,000 bail. He remained in custody Wednesday morning, and a felony hearing is scheduled for Friday morning in City Court.
