A section of state Route 75 in the Town of Eden will be dedicated Friday in memory of a local soldier who died in a motor vehicle accident earlier this year.
John J. Levulis, a soldier who was posthumously promoted to captain, died May 7 of injuries suffered when a civilian in a sports car hit the military convoy in which Levulis was traveling along a New Jersey highway. The convoy was heading from Fort Drum in upstate New York, where Levulis was stationed, to Fort Dix in New Jersey to conduct mounted gunnery training.
Levulis was an infantry platoon leader with the 10th Mountain Division and had returned in 2014 from a tour of duty in Afghanistan.
The ceremony to dedicate “Capt. John J. Levulis Memorial Highway” begins at 10 a.m. Friday at Newell-Faulkner Post 880, American Legion, 2912 Legion Drive.
