Grand island Fire Company open house will feature a “live fire”

The Grand Island Fire Company’s Fire Prevention Week open house will feature a “live fire” demonstration that will show visitors how fast and hot a seemingly “small” house fire can progress and become, Fire Chief Matt Osinski announced Wednesday.

The open house from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 9 at company headquarters at 2275 Baseline Road will also include for students of all island schools a “Ride To School In A Fire Truck” contest and all students will be given given entry blanks when they arrive, he added.

Assistant Fire Chief Omar Sortino who is heading the program committee, said company firefighters and emergency medical services workers will be joined by men and women from various local law enforcement and fire departments in staging various fire fighting and EMS demonstrations and in setting up displays.
