Whether New York State should continue to prosecute 16 and 17-year-olds as adult criminal suspects will be the subject of a talk by Buffalo City Court Judge Susan M. Eagan during a luncheon of the League of Women Voters of Buffalo/Niagara at the Scotch’N Sirloin Restaurant at 3999 Maple Road Amherst at Noon Oct. 16.
The program, which is open to the public will deal with the organization’s support of raising the age of adult prosecutions to at least 18 in New York State.
Virtually all other states in the nation limit adult prosecutions to suspects at least 18, while annually about 50,000 16 and 17-year-olds in New York State are prosecuted as adult suspects. according to league officials. Reservations for the lunch, which costs $20, can be made on-line at http://www.lwvbn.org. Persons interested only in attending the program without eating can call the League office at 716-884-3550.
