WARSAW – A 44-year-old Warsaw man has been charged following a violent domestic assault that left a woman with severe facial fractures, according to State Police.
Troopers said that Eric J. Cushman assaulted the woman inside a Town of Warsaw home on Sept. 20 and destroyed her telephone, preventing her from contacting authorities immediately.
The woman was able to flee the home and obtain medical treatment, troopers said. Cushman also fled and troopers, with help from the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office, Warsaw and Perry police, and the state Division of Parole, subsequently tracked him down at a residence on Bank Street in Batavia, where he was taken into custody Sept. 23.
Cushman was charged with felony counts of assault, aggravated family offense and criminal mischief, as well as misdemeanor counts of unlawful imprisonment and criminal mischief.
Troopers said the victim was granted a court order of protection after the assault.
Following arraignment in Warsaw Town Court, Cushman was sent to the county jail without bail, pending further court proceedings.
According to public records, Cushman previously served time in prison for robbing a 79-year-old man and for aggravated unlicensed operation.
