The University at Buffalo football team plays the No. 1 passing offense in the nation and the No. 6 offense in total yards on Saturday.
Bowling Green (2-2) brings it's high-flying aerial attack to UB Stadium for a 3:30 p.m. Mid-American Conference opener.
Quotes from UB coach Lance Leipold at his weekly news conference:
x- "They’re very talented, very explosive, very confident in what they do."
x- "Even against Power Five competition, they’re still getting behind people and match their skill against others very well. The quarterback, Johnson, is leading the nation in passing. But when things aren’t there he’s able to scramble and make things happen."
x- It’s an outstanding defensive line. It’ll be another big challenge for us offensively.
x- "Shortly after the game Saturday our upperclassmen were turning their attention to Bowling Green. Last year was a very close ballgame and one that didn’t sit well with our guys. I know they’re ready to get to work."
x- "The focus for us is going to have to be more about points allowed than yards allowed. Sometimes in this offense certain plays, though they may end up in the passing statistical category, they’re geared to being like running plays for other teams. They’re meant to keep you off balance, set up other things. . . . If you get caught up, they have something else that goes off that, and the next thing you know they’re running behind you. You need to be able to stay disciplined, give the different looks, and be more concerned about tightening things down to not allow points."
The game will be televised in Western New York on Time Warner Sports. It's online on ESPN3 across the rest of the country.
