Region gets $1.25 million in federal funds to combat human trafficking

The International Institute of Buffalo and the Erie County Sheriff’s Office will receive $1.25 million in federal money to combat human trafficking.

A Department of Justice grant of $750,000 will allow the International Institute to help integrate refugees, immigrants and victims of human trafficking into the local community through English language classes and job-training programs.

The sheriff’s office will use its money – $500,000 – to investigate human-trafficking cases.
