Frederick Chesson, founded concert marketing firm

Sept. 14, 1957 – Sept. 23, 2015

Frederick “Freddy C” Chesson, who did marketing and promotion for concerts across the nation, died last Wednesday in Gwinett Hospital, Atlanta. He was 58.

Born in Buffalo, he attended School 75 and Woodlawn Junior High School. After graduating from East High School, he earned an associate degree in criminal justice from Erie Community College.

Mr. Chesson’s passion for playing and promoting music began in high school, when he was a member of the school band. Later he was a founder of the Stone Funk Band.

In 1982, he joined C&C Promotions, which worked with local musicians. The following year, he joined Haymon Entertainment and founded Freddy C Promotions, doing marketing and tour management for Haymon. He promoted leading entertainers such as Whitney Houston, Mary J. Blige and the Jacksons. In recent years, Freddy C Promotions has been based near Atlanta.

Survivors include two daughters, Latrese Chesson-Hayes and Jewel; a son, Brian; their mother, Pamela; a sister, Cynthia Burke; six brothers, John, Terrance, William Taliaferro, Lawrence Gadley, Victor Hampton and Troy Whigham; and six grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in True Bethel Baptist Church, 907 E. Ferry St., after a wake at 10.
