Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority officials on Monday marked the one millionth passenger to pass through the terminal at the Niagara Falls International Airport since the new terminal opened in December 2009.
A passenger aboard the Allegiant Air flight from Sanford, Fla., received a prize package including two plane tickets, a one-night’s stay at a local hotel and gifts from other area attractions.
Last year, the airport surpassed the 100,000 passenger mark for the first time, setting a record with 105,273 passengers departing from the facility. A total of 207,597 inbound and outbound passengers used the airport last year, the NFTA said.
This year, the facility is on track to surpass last year’s total, having already served 87,571 departing passengers through August, a 17.5 percent increase year to date, the authority said.
