Town of Tonawanda
The calendar turned to fall last week, and town residents this year are being asked to bag their leaves rather than rake them into piles at the curb.
Highway Superintendent William E. Swanson said the facility where the town has disposed of leaves in the past will not be able to accept any this year. “We are working on finding a new disposal avenue but until one is secured we are asking our residents to bag them,” he said in a news release.
Crews will be sent out to collect leaves as in previous years but bagged leaves will help save on manpower and disposal costs, Swanson said.
“We realize that the high volume will eventually make it difficult to bag leaves but if we get as many people as possible to bag them, it will be a tremendous help this year,” he said.
Any residents with questions may call the Highway Department at 875-8822 between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
