Last free clinic for rabies vaccinations today in Cheektowaga

Wednesday is the last opportunity this year for pet owners to obtain free rabies vaccinations for their dogs, cats and ferrets.

A vaccination clinic will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Erie County Fire Training Academy, 3359 Broadway, Cheektowaga. It’s sponsored by the county Health Department, along with the Niagara Frontier Veterinary Society, Medaille College’s Veterinary Technology Program and the SPCA Serving Erie County.

Pet owners must bring their pets’ vaccination records to the clinic; state law requires pets be vaccinated against rabies. “Indoor” cats also should be vaccinated, since there’s no way to ensure they can remain totally free of potential rabies exposure.

More than 1,400 pets were vaccinated at two free clinics held earlier this year.
