Helen A. Liberty, General Motors receptionist

June 5, 1924 – Sept. 20, 2015

Helen A. Liberty, of Williamsville, a receptionist at the General Motors plant in the Town of Tonawanda, died Sunday in Hospice Buffalo, Cheektowaga. She was 91.

Born in Buffalo, the former Helen Spraggs worked at John’s Soda Barn on Niagara Street while she was attending Riverside High School. She later attended Chown Business School. During World War II, she worked at both Bell Aircraft and Curtiss-Wright, then became a secretary at Pratt and Letchworth.

She met her husband of 30 years, Anthony “Ed” Liberty, while working at the GM plant.

She retired in 1986.

In addition to her husband, survivors include two daughters, Madelyn Grey and Holly Vester; a son, Dennis; a sister, Margaret Johnson; and nine grandchildren.

Services were private.
