Accardo nails down Falls GOP primary victory in absentee count

NIAGARA FALLS – John G. Accardo was confirmed Monday as the winner of the Republican nomination for mayor of Niagara Falls, after the Niagara County Board of Elections counted the absentee and affidavit ballots in the primary election.

In all, 77 ballots were added to the Sept. 10 figures. Accardo received 35 of those votes, bringing his total to 463 votes. Robert D. Pascoal received 27 votes, increasing his total to 409, and James J. Szwedo picked up 15 more votes for a final count of 347.

Accardo will square off against Democratic Mayor Paul A. Dyster in the Nov. 3 general election. Dyster was credited with a 65-vote victory over Councilman Glenn A. Choolokian in the Democratic primary after a count of absentee and affidavit ballots Friday.
