The School Board holds a public hearing about the Veteran’s Exemption Law at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Middle School Auditorium, 60 S. Lincoln Ave. Public comment will follow a presentation about the law.
In a press release, the district explained it does not have to adopt a tax exemption for veterans.
Already the town of Orchard Park and the county have one. If the district chooses to follow suit, the tax levy would be adjusted to be paid for by residents without the exemption.
On Wednesday, the Town Board expects to release its tentative budget. It will be posted online on Sept. 30.
Spending increases will go beyond this year’s .73 percent tax cap, said Supervisor Patrick Keem.
For now, estimates for costs and needs like road repair and contractural staff raises, are stilll being calculated. While budget spending in recent years has stayed beneath the tax cap, but this year it’s unsustainable. Sales tax revenues are lower than usual and municipal needs are mounting, said Councilman Mike Sherry.

• The Town Board meets Wednesday for a 6 p.m. work session at the Supervisor’s office, second floor, Municipal Center, 4295 S. Buffalo St.
• The Rails to Trails committee meets at 7 p.m. Wednesday, first floor conference room, Municipal Center.
