Lockport mural dedication set for Saturday

LOCKPORT – A dedication ceremony for the new downtown Lockport mural will be held at noon Saturday, according to George Fritz, the project organizer.

Fritz, owner of Mills Jewelers, 51 Main St., on whose exterior wall the mural was painted, said a commemorative plaque also will be installed. The building is owned by Fritz’s landlord, David L. Ulrich, who approved the design.

Buffalo artist Augustina Droze, assisted by Bruce Adams, started work on the $30,000 project Aug. 10. The 42- by 60-foot mural centers on the Flight of Five, the original Erie Canal locks. The wall, which overlooks the locks, was revealed after the city tore down a parking ramp in 2013.
