An irrationally acting man fended off Buffalo police and a neighbor who tried to calm him while he jumped between two porch roofs and smashed second-floor windows in the first block of Bush Street near Amherst Street in the city’s Black Rock District for about two hours early Wednesday.
Police spokesman Michael DeGeorge said police were called to the scene about 1:30 A.M. and managed to pull the man down about 2:30 a.m. He was taken on a stretcher to the Erie County Medical Center by a Rural Metro Medical Services crew for treatment and an evaluation.
According to police officials the man smashed windows on two second-floor flats as he continued screaming and smashing himself against house walls as he jumped between two adjacent porch roofs and at one point tried to swing from one of the house’s main power service wires. The man reportedly has a history of being despondent. DeGeorge said no charges were filed against the man as police continued to investigate the circumstances leading up to the incident.
