Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra’s fall Classics schedule

Here is the schedule of the fall Classics season. Unless otherwise noted, Falletta conducts.

• 8 p.m. Wednesday: Lang Lang performs Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto in the season-opening gala. Also, Tchaikovsky’s Suite from “Swan Lake”; Glinka’s Overture to “Ruslan and Ludmilla.”

• 8 p.m. Oct. 3; 2:30 p.m. Oct. 4: Juho Pohjonen is the soloist in Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A Minor. Also, Sebastian Fagerlund’s “Isola” and Sibelius’ Symphony No. 5.

• 10:30 a.m. Oct. 9; 8 p.m. Oct. 10: Elina Vähälä is the soloist in the Jaako Kuussisto’s Violin Concerto. Also, Rautavaara’s Symphony No. 1 and Sibelius’ Symphony No. 1.

• 8 p.m. Oct. 24; 2:30 p.m. Oct. 25: Beethoven’s “Eroica” Symphony follows John Adams’ “Century Rolls,” with pianist Conrad Tao as soloist. David Lockington conducts.

• 8 p.m. Nov. 7; 2:30 p.m. Nov. 8: Byron Yasui’s Ukelele Concerto, with soloist Jake Shimabukuro; Suite No. 2 from Roussel’s “Bacchus et Ariane”; Ibert’s “Escales”; Gottschalk’s Symphony No. 1, “A Night in the Tropics.”

• 10:30 a.m. Nov. 20; 8 p.m. Nov. 21: Elgar’s “Enigma Variations”; Bax’s “Tintagel” and Nielsen’s Violin Concerto, with soloist Jennifer Koh.

• 8 p.m. Dec. 5; 2:30 p.m. Dec. 6: Pianist Beatrice Rana performs Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 2. Also, Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 1, “Winter Dreams”; and Peter Boyer’s “New Beginnings.” Thomas Wilkins conducts.

• 10:30 a.m. Dec. 11; 8 p.m. Dec. 12: “JoAnn’s Classical Christmas,” program to be announced.
