Mayor Byron W. Brown declared Make-A-Wish Western New York Week in the City of Buffalo from Tuesday to next Monday in a ceremony Tuesday in Niagara Square.
Make-A-Wish answers the wishes of children who have life-threatening medical conditions.
Following the ceremony, volunteers planted nearly 150 tulip bulbs in the square in honor of each wish granted during the past year. Highlight of the week will be the 21st annual Make-A-Wish Radio-Thon Thursday and Friday hosted by broadcaster Larry Norton on 97 Rock. Since it began, the Radio-Thon has raised more than $2.8 million to fulfill local wishes.
