OLCOTT – In conjunction with the annual Newfane Celtic Festival in Krull Park, the Newfane Women’s Lacrosse Club will be the beneficiary of a 5-kilometer footrace through Olcott, starting at 11 a.m. Sunday.
The club receives no funding from the Newfane School District, and some of its players come from neighboring districts. They’re not allowed to play varsity teams from New York State public schools, so their opponents are private-school, out-of-state and Canadian teams, coach Laura Hambruch said.
For a $25 registration fee, which increases to $30 on race day, participants will receive two Sunday passes to the festival, two adult beverage tickets and a free T-shirt for the first 150 registrants. This is also the last race in the Dimino Lower Niagara River Running Series, awards for which will be presented after the race.
Registration can be found at niagaraceltic.com/fest_EV_5K.html or by arriving between 9 and 10:45 a.m. Sunday. The festival will feature entertainment on three stages, cannon firing, rugby games, a dog agility competition, and the Highland Games.
