Mikal Cronin to prove solo success at Mohawk Place

Since stepping out from the shadow of high school buddy and former band-mate/collaborator Ty Segall, California singer-songwriter Mikal Cronin has spent the first half of this decade releasing a trifecta of fuzzy and anthemic power-pop records.

His most recent release, 2015’s “MCIII,” has continued to see Cronin’s lo-fi garage/psych rock chip away for a more polished pop sound. The video of the album’s first single, “Turn Around,” was a cameo-filled, shot-for-shot remake of Natalie Imbruglia’s “Torn,” with comedian Kristen Schaal playing the role of the Aussie one-hit wonder. Check it out below.

Cronin will take the stage on Sept. 15 at Mohawk Place for a hearty mid-week bill at the downtown hot spot. Opening up the evening will be off-beat Edmonton pop artist Calvin Love and jangly post-punk outfit the Cairo Gang.

Doors for the show open at 7 p.m. and tickets are still available for $14 upon your arrival. Further event info can be found here.
