Ex-Star of India owner takes over Hertel place

Hertel Avenue’s Jewel of India has been taken over by the former owner of Star of India, on Delaware Avenue in Kenmore.

The restaurant at 1264 Hertel Ave. is now called New Jewel of India, said owner Kulbir Singh.

Singh had cultivated a steady following on Delaware Avenue, but ended up changing restaurants a few months ago. His former place, at 3167 Delaware Ave., Kenmore, is now called India Star.

The new place has a 30-spot parking lot, he pointed out, which should make it easier for customers to visit. The lunch buffet with fresh-baked naan flatbread is available six days a week, except Monday, priced at $9.99. Dinner buffet is Thursday only.

“We had 11 years there, but I had no parking lot,” Singh said. “Now I have a nice lot.”
