Victor Irizarry of Buffalo, 44, has been charged with second-degree murder after Saturday’s fatal shooting of a 28-year-old Williamsville man.
Buffalo police on Sunday evening identified Irizarry, as well as his victim, Nicholas Jozens.
The shooting occurred at Clinton Street and Weaver Street at about 4:30 a.m. Jozens was found wounded and taken to Erie County Medical Center, where he died.
Police said Saturday that he appeared to be an innocent bystander.
Following the shooting, police say, Irizarry barricaded himself in a building in the 1900 block of Clinton, prompting police to call out the Buffalo SWAT unit and the Crisis Management Team at about 11:30 a.m. During the standoff, police gathered information that Irizarry might be hiding in a garage on nearby Barnard Street.
With the assistance of South District officers, the garage was surrounded and the suspect surrendered two hours later, police said.
