Niagara University junior wins National American Miss New York

LEWISTON – Niagara University student Sarah Volmy was crowned 2015 National American Miss New York at the state pageant held last month in New Brunswick, N.J.

The Lockport native will advance to compete in the national pageant at Disneyland in November and have a chance to win a share of more than $500,000 in cash and prizes.

Pagent entrants are scored on their participation in community services, interview acumen, personal introductions and formal wear. She credited much of her success to her involvement at Niagara University.

“Being at Niagara University for two years has definitely helped me grow as a person and contributed largely to my wonderful performance at the National American Miss Pageant,” said Volmy in a press release.

She is majoring in sociology and minoring in women’s studies and law and jurisprudence at Niagara University and said she hopes to become an attorney.

She is a member of the university’s honors program, works in the admissions office, performs duties as a campus tour guide and volunteers regularly through the Learn and Serve Office. She is also very active in her church, where she assists with Sunday school classes and helps children receive sponsorships for Bible camps.

Sarah is the daughter of Dejasson and Marlene Volmy of Lockport.
