A suspect was in custody late Saturday in the Kaisertown neighborhood shooting death of a 28-year-old Williamsville man.
The man was found wounded early Saturday and taken to Erie County Medical Center, where he later died.
The shooting occurred at Clinton Street and Weaver Street at about 4:30 a.m. and police quickly had a suspect.
Police declined to release the name of the victim late Saturday. A detective said the victim appeared to be an innocent bystander who was not the intended target of the shooter.
Following the shooting, the suspect barricaded himself in a building in the 1900 block of Clinton, prompting police to call out the Buffalo SWAT unit and the Crisis Management Team about 11:30 a.m. During the standoff, police gathered information that the suspect might be hiding in a garage on Barnard Street.
With the assistance of South District officers, the garage was surrounded and the suspect surrendered two hours later, police said. The suspect, a Buffalo man in his early 40s, is in police custody and charges are pending.
