SISTER - Sister Arthur Wingerter was born Mary Gertrude in Buffalo, NY, on October 24, 1927, died on Thursday, September 10, 2015, at the Stella Niagara Health Center, Stella Niagara, NY. She was the daughter of the late Leo and Della (Fischer) Wingerter. Sister Arthur graduated from the Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart in Eggertsville, NY, in 1945 and later attended Rosary Hill (Daemen) College in Amherst, NY, where she received her B.S. degree in Education. Sister Arthur began her teaching career in 1949 at St. Ann's School, in Buffalo, NY. She later taught at St. Lawrence and St. Benedict Schools, in Buffalo, NY, St. Peter's School in Lewiston, NY, St. Aloysius Academy and St. Rose School in New Lexington, OH, Sacred Heart Elementary and St. John Schools in Columbus, OH and St. Anthony School in Charleston, WV. Sister Arthur retired in 2000 and was in residence at St. Benedict Convent, Buffalo, NY and then at St. Mary's Apartments, in Williamsville, NY, before moving to the Stella Niagara Health Center in October 2008. She is survived by two sisters, Rita Smith and Bernadette Wingerter, also many nieces and nephews. Sister Arthur was preceded in death by her brothers Robert, Arthur and Elmer and sisters Dolores Cobb, Therese Sullivan and Regina Elberz. Sister Arthur will be waked at Stella Niagara Convent on Sunday from 3:00-7:00 PM, when a prayer service will be held in her memory at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 AM in the Sisters' Chapel at Stella Niagara.
