LEWISTON – The 58th annual Niagara County Peach Festival starts out its second day running on Saturday, literally with the 37th annual Peach Festival 5K beginning at 9 a.m. down Center Street and will come to a beautiful conclusion Sunday with the crowning of the Peach Queen in Academy Park.
Admission is free to the festival in Academy Park on Center Street and parking shuttles will be available – just follow the signs. Food, games and rides, as well as home-grown peaches and shortcakes will be available.
Also on Saturday, the Peach Festival Parade will move down Center Street. The parade begins at 11 a.m. and will feature over 100 units and thirteen marching bands, an all-time high.
Saturday will also feature the Taste Off, where the best peach recipes compete for up to $500 in prizes.
The Peach Blossom and Peach Fuzz contests for the youngsters will be on Saturday and Sunday.
On Sunday, the Dance Showcase features ten area dance companies on stage in Academy Park from noon to 3 p.m.
The finale for the Festival, the Peach Queen Pageant, will take place at 8 p.m. Sunday. Sixteen girls from Niagara County will compete for the title of Peach Queen and the $4,000 scholarship awarded by the Kiwanis of Lewiston.
Live music will be performed on stage throughout the Festival. Featured acts are Terry Buchwald and The Boys of Summer Saturday night and Everyday People on Sunday prior to the Peach Queen contest. The full schedule of events is available at www.lewistonpeachfestival.org.
