Monday hearing to put focus on quality of Lake Erie water

Erie County Legislator Patrick B. Burke, D-Buffalo, will hold an informal hearing Monday on the quality of Lake Erie water.

The public discussion is set for 9:30 a.m. in the Legislature chambers on the fourth floor at Old County Hall, 92 Franklin St. Representatives from several local environment groups are expected to attend, including Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper, Erie County Department of Environment and Planning, county Health Department, county sewer districts, the Soil and Water Division, Alliance for the Great Lakes and Citizens Campaign for the Environment.

Burke said recent waterfront revitalization in the county has exposed the contamination of ears of chemical and sewage runoff into local waterways, impacting public health, recreation and the local economy.
