LOCKPORT – City police have charged a Lockport man suspected of stabbing a 13-year-old girl in the back during a fight in Grossi Park early Friday morning.
Derrrick T. Washburn, 20, of Lewis Street was charged with first-degree assault, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, first-degree reckless endangerment, tampering with physical evidence and endangering the welfare of a child. He was remanded to Niagara County Jail on $10,000 bail after he was arraigned Friday morning in Lockport City Court. A return court date was set for Monday.
Police were called to an address on West Avenue in the City of Lockport at 2:40 a.m. When they arrived they found the girl had been stabbed in the back during a fight, moments earlier in Grossi Park, which is on West Avenue near South New York Street. The victim was taken to Eastern Niagara Hospital in Lockport with non-life-threatening injuries.
The victim knew the suspect and was able to provide a name and physical description. Washburn was located a few minutes later, a short distance from the crime scene was arrested.
