City Tavern on Chippewa Street is closing. It is going out in glory, with a blowout planned for Sept. 18 and 19.
The bar was popular among the under-30 crowd and often played host to deejays and dance parties.
“The past five years have been quite the ride, the best learning experiences one could ask for,” the Facebook announcement read, in part. “I’m neither sad nor happy to see this place go but I am very excited to see what the future holds. I hope the times that we did have at City were special for everyone that participated in the crazy late weekend nights. Thanks to everyone that sipped on a few, stayed late, helped clean, bartend etc etc! It was fun! too much fun!”
Another recent post read: “The last beer order I’ll ever make for City Tavern has arrived. ... Lets DRINK THE BAR DRY!”
City Tavern is at 57 West Chippewa St., a busy location near the corner of Franklin. The multi-story building was previously home to Brinks, which opened in 2001.
