History of Herschell Spillman engine manufacturer on tap for Thursday

NORTH TONAWANDA – John Dumbrowski will speak about the history of Herschell Spillman Motor Co. in “Phantom of the Brass Era,” from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum, 180 Thompson St.

The program, which is free to the public, will include a display one of the company’s four-cylinder motors, courtesy of James Sandoro and the Pierce Arrow Museum.

From 1905 nto 1924 Herschell Spillman built more than half a million gasoline engines used in more than 85 makes of automobiles, trucks, poweroats and airplanes. Only a handful still exist.
