Eckl’s Restaurant, an Orchard Park institution, closing this month

Eckl’s Restaurant, an institution in Orchard Park since 1934, will close at the end of the month.

The restaurant is known for its roast beef on weck sandwiches. Its last day in business will be Sept. 26.

Shirley Eckl and her family took over the restaurant in 1964. It is listed for sale at $779,000.

Eckl did not return phone calls. The person answering the phone at the restaurant said the restaurant was being sold so Eckl could retire.

Located at 4936 Ellicott Road, Eckl’s two dining rooms and bar have a neighborhood tavern vibe, and often get very busy. The building, constructed around 1816, looks like a giant white house with black shutters. It seats about 100 people.
